My Story
The best journeys don't always have a destination.
There has always been something about the outdoors that has drawn me in. Long before I ever picked up a camera, I found myself exploring the backroads, mountains, rivers, and forests of British Columbia. Those places have shaped the way I see the world and continue to remind me that some of life's most meaningful moments happen when we slow down enough to notice them.
Photography became a natural extension of that journey.
It isn't about collecting beautiful images or chasing the next destination. It's about preserving moments that would otherwise disappear—the first light reaching a mountain peak, wildlife moving quietly through the forest, or the stillness that can only be found miles from the nearest road. Every photograph is a reminder that these places exist, and that they are worth experiencing, respecting, and protecting.
Over the years, my path has taken me through many different landscapes and careers. I've worked in logging, served my community through Search and Rescue, spent countless hours exploring the backcountry on a motorcycle, and built a life around being outdoors. Each experience has given me a deeper appreciation for the land and the people whose lives are connected to it.
Those experiences have taught me patience, resilience, and respect—qualities that have become just as important behind the camera as they are in everyday life.
Today, James James is more than a photography business. It is a place where art, adventure, and storytelling come together.
Through fine art prints, books, photography expeditions, and stories from the road, my goal is to create work that inspires people to look beyond the photograph itself. I want every image to carry a sense of place—to remind someone of a favourite adventure, inspire them to explore somewhere new, or simply bring a little of the outdoors into their everyday life.
I believe photography has the power to preserve more than landscapes.
It preserves memories.
It preserves history.
It preserves perspective.
Most of all, it reminds us that no matter how busy life becomes, there are still places where time slows down, the air feels different, and the world becomes a little quieter.
If my work encourages even one person to step outside, take the scenic route, support conservation, or appreciate the incredible places we share, then it has done exactly what I hoped it would.

My Philosophy
Leave every place better than you found it.
The landscapes we enjoy today are not ours to keep—they are ours to care for. Whether I'm photographing a remote mountain ridge, travelling a forgotten logging road, or guiding others into the backcountry, I believe every adventure comes with a responsibility to respect the land, the wildlife, and the communities that call these places home. My work is rooted in that belief, and I hope every photograph inspires not only admiration, but stewardship.
