With a background in Search and Rescue, logging, backcountry exploration and extensive travel throughout Canada, James is comfortable working well beyond traditional commercial settings. From photographing a remote lodge accessible by backroad to documenting the experience of spending a weekend at a destination, he brings an explorer's perspective to every project.

Commercial & Destination Photography

Backcountry Photography

Some stories aren't found beside the highway.

James is available for commissioned backcountry photography in locations that require additional travel, hiking, off-road access or time in remote environments.

His extensive experience in the outdoors allows him to work comfortably in environments where a traditional commercial photography shoot may not be practical.

Guided Photography Experiences

James is also available to partner with resorts and tourism operators to provide guided photography experiences for guests.

Designed for everyday photographers using an iPhone, DSLR or mirrorless camera, these experiences combine scenic exploration with approachable photography instruction.

Guests learn how to work with natural light, composition and perspective while James guides them through locations worth slowing down to experience.

Experiences can range from a few hours of local exploration to full-day or custom backcountry adventures.

For resorts, a James James Photography Experience can become an additional guest offering, seasonal package, private excursion or signature experience unique to your property.

Backcountry Photography
$120 per hour

$0.72 per kilometre

Commissioned photography includes five professionally selected and edited images.

Additional finished images are available for $20 each, with custom bulk pricing available for collections of more than 20 images.

Larger commercial projects, multi-day assignments, extensive image libraries and ongoing content partnerships can be quoted as a complete project.

Not every project fits neatly into an hourly rate.

James is available to discuss custom commissions involving multiple locations, extended travel, regional storytelling, publications, destination campaigns, documentary projects and ongoing commercial photography.
